Connections to now

Entertainment

In the 1950s, entertainment was getting to be a big thing. The Roaring Twenties and the Great Depression paved the way for entertainment in the 50s; therefore, affected entertainment now. Families would sit together in the comfy room and watch wholesome shows about other families just like them, which is the same concept we do now. Before the 50s, censorship was low on TV. Comics and superheroes just came out, Disney became a thing, and lots of things were scarce. Fast forward to the 50s, people had what felt like luxury items such as washing and drying machines, refrigerators, kitchen appliences and more. All the household items that we have now, people started inventing back then. There is also fast food and bulidngs malls, schools, malt shops, and Mcdonalds, which is still around to this day! Granted, these things that were invented way back when, have changed, but they are still rooted in the same idea.

Fashion & Fads

This time period is when things started to be more fun and colorful. In addition to patterns like polka dots, stripes, there were contrasting colors such as green and purple. Creativity blew wild, some popular brands that are still around now are Chuck Taylors, Fedora, Lacoste, Mary Jane, Tiffany & co and more. Thanks to the flow of inspiration, lots of clothes and brands now still have a similar choice of colors and patterns from the 50s.

Music

This topic is definitely the most impactful of all. During this era, music became a popular hobby. Artists like Johnny cash, Elvis, And The Inkspots made influence on genres like country, rock n roll, rockabilly, R+B and more. When well-liked artists were black and won awards, it showed that black people should be taken seriously; likewise for other minority groups. Lots of genres and subgenres of music were born, and minorities were finally getting the credit for it. While performing, artists would wear nice suits. Music in the 50s became more about relationships, hardships, and overall personal experience. It became more niche to not listen to music.
