Entertainment of the 50s

The entertainment of the 50s changed the nation as we know it. Almost everyone had a television. Families would all sit down together in the living room and watch TV shows and/or movies that were wholesome and based on other middle class white families. Not only were there TV's inside, but drive-in movies were popular as well. People would watch movies and eat snacks right from the bed of their cars, hang out at malt shops, and etc. If people weren't hanging out at any of these places, they would be doing activities like hula hooping and frisbee. Some toys that were around are the original potato head, Mickey Mouse plushies, and lincoln logs. Disney was founded in 1923, and omly grew more popular during this time period. This is also when the Red Ryder was popularized, people still use them and other bb guns like them, today! These forms of entertainment are mostly still around, or inspired the kind we have now.

However, if you were part of the haves-nots in this era, it was more prominent. The federal failures of programs were the reason for urban poverty. On the other hand of the G.I. Bill, minorities did not get the accomodations deserved for their hard work during their time served in WWII. Cities were no longer desirable places to live for the poor.
