Fashion in the 1950s

Fashion is rarely contained into just one decade. In the 50s, there was a clear division between gender roles. Men and boys wore casual style of clothing. Women and girls, however, wore elegant, formal clothing and were often decorated by beautiful accessories.

Womenswear in the 50s

An hourglass figure was ideal. Women made up for a lack of hourglass figure by wearing big skirts and slim-fitting shirts. If they were lucky enough to fit the beauty standard, they downed pencil skirts and nice trousers. Hats and gloves were always put on for business inquiries. The colors the articles were often pink, teal, red, baby blue, and black. More and more patterns began to appear such as polka dots and stripes

Menswear in the 50s

The difference in clothing for men was due to the fact that they could finally dress up again. Hats were popular, as alwaysl. There were more styles along with the fedora now, such as straw, boater or Panama. The biggest change in mens clothing during this time period was the colors. Menswear came in much more than just white, grey and navy. If men weren't wearing hats, they did their hair using pomade. Facial hair was kept groomed nicely or clean-shaven.
